A personal site for musician Gearóid Keane, built to showcase concertina music, lessons and performances.
Like Ryevale, this is a static site rather than a database-driven CMS. A personal teaching site doesn’t need user accounts, e-commerce or frequently-changing dynamic content. It needs to be fast, cheap to run, and easy to keep online for years without maintenance overhead.
- Built with Hugo, a static site generator: content is written in Markdown and compiled to plain HTML/CSS/JS
- No database or server-side application to patch, back up or worry about being hacked
- Very low hosting cost, since static files can be served from almost any web host or CDN
- Straightforward to extend with new pages (class notes, video lessons) without touching any code
